The Alforan factory dates from the mid 19th Century. Production of ornamental ceramic pieces started in 1934 under the banner of the family Fohr.

The Alforan produced mainly simple household earthenware with brown, beige and mint green colour schemes with high gloss glazes. Handles or ears are usually shaped as a platted rope. This pitcher is a typical vessel with above said colour glazes and form. From the 1950's on the range of ceramic forms and decors expanded and young designers such as Heinz Siery, Walter Grau and Walter Weiland. From the mid-1960s, the proportion of ornamental ceramics was reduced and the company concentrated on the production of flower pots and cachepots. In addition, the export share was increased sharply.
