Bordallo Pinheiro Cabbage Bowl
A handpainted bowl shaped as cabbage leafs. The bowl is from the Bordallo Pinheiro 'Cabbage' tableware range.
The cabbage is a metaphor for Portugal's rustic ways. Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro's ceramic creation of cabbage shaped tableware is a social critique. By giving tableware the shape of a cabbage it found it's way onto the classy tables of the elite where it would have otherwise been shunned. Due to the combination of both humor, caricature and artistry his ceramic legacy is still in production today.
